Environment
- Product: SOLABS QM 10
- Version: any
- Component: SharePoint Integration
- Configuration: External SharePoint access via browser (Microsoft Edge)
Issue / Symptoms
A user with valid QM10 credentials is unable to access SharePoint through the SOLABS QM10 interface and immediately receives the following error upon attempting to connect:
401 Unauthorized
The issue persists even after the user has successfully reset their password via my.solabs.com. The SharePoint link appears functional, but access is denied without any additional prompts for re-authentication.
Cause
The browser session contains cached authentication data or an active Windows authentication prompt (Windows NIP/PIN) is interfering with the SharePoint login flow. When Microsoft Edge detects an existing Windows session, it may attempt to authenticate the user automatically using Windows credentials instead of QM10 credentials, resulting in a 401 Unauthorized error.
Resolution
Option 1 — Bypass Windows Authentication Prompt
- Close all open browser tabs in Microsoft Edge before attempting to access SharePoint again.
- Reopen the SharePoint link from within QM10.
- When Microsoft Edge displays a Windows authentication prompt requesting a NIP (PIN), do not enter the Windows PIN.
- Select More options (or Use a different account) on the authentication dialog.
- Enter your QM10 credentials (username and password) when prompted.
Confirm that access to SharePoint is now granted.
Expected outcome: After entering QM10 credentials via the "More options" path, SharePoint loads successfully without a 401 error.
Option 2 — Clear Temporary Internet Files and Cached Credentials
- If Option 1 does not resolve the issue, clearing the browser's cached data may eliminate conflicting session tokens or stored credentials.
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete to open the Clear browsing data dialog.
- Set the Time range to All time.
- Select the following options:
- Browsing history
- Cookies and other site data
- Cached images and files
- Passwords (optional — only if credential conflicts are suspected)
- Click Clear now.
- Close and restart Microsoft Edge completely.
Reopen the SharePoint link from within QM10 and sign in using your QM10 credentials when prompted.
Expected outcome: With cached data cleared, Edge no longer presents conflicting credentials and SharePoint loads successfully.
Additional Information
- This issue is related to browser session management and Windows integrated authentication behavior in Microsoft Edge, not a permissions issue within SOLABS QM10 or SharePoint itself.
- If the issue recurs, clearing the browser cache and cookies before accessing SharePoint may help prevent cached credentials from triggering the same conflict.
Users who have recently reset their password via my.solabs.com should ensure they are using their updated credentials when prompted.
