Environment
- Product: SOLABS QM10
- Affected Systems: SharePoint, Reports Portal
- Authentication: Azure Active Directory (AAD)
- Browser: Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome
Issue/Symptoms
To access SharePoint and the Reports Portal, users must authenticate with their credentials.
- By default, the browser displays a standard prompt requesting the SOLABS QM10 username and password.
- When the organization uses Azure Active Directory (AAD) with the Microsoft Edge browser or Google chrome, a Microsoft sign-in pop-up appears instead of the standard prompt.
- In this scenario, the user's Microsoft personal identification number (PIN) does not grant access to SharePoint, even if the user is already signed in to that account in the browser.
Cause
When Azure Active Directory (AAD) is used with Microsoft Edge, the browser attempts by default to authenticate the user with the Microsoft account already active in the browser (via the Microsoft PIN) rather than prompting for SOLABS QM10 credentials. This Microsoft account is not linked to the user's SOLABS QM10 account and therefore cannot grant access to SharePoint or the Reports Portal.
Resolution
- When the Microsoft sign-in pop-up appears, select More options.
Expected outcome: Additional sign-in options are displayed. - Select Use another account.
Expected outcome: A new sign-in prompt appears, allowing another account to be entered. - Enter the SOLABS QM10 account credentials (username and password).
Expected outcome: The user is authenticated and successfully accesses SharePoint and the Reports Portal.
Additional Information
- Preventive Measure: Users accessing SharePoint with Microsoft Edge in an Azure Active Directory (AAD) environment should always select Use another account and enter their SOLABS QM10 credentials, rather than using the Microsoft account already signed in to the browser.
- Known Limitation: The Microsoft PIN associated with the browser's active account cannot be used to access SharePoint or the Reports Portal.
